Abstract:

Objective

Through analyzing the habits and characteristics of the public and the media on the network of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), this paper aims to realize and explore the reasons for the low public awareness rate of COPD in China.

Methods

Taking the period from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2018 as the time range into consideration, we used the big data analysis tool of Baidu Index and took "chronic bronchitis and emphysema" , "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" , "emphysema" , "chronic bronchitis" and "COPD" as the five key words, as well as took "week" as the measuring unit of time to record the "search index" and "media index" data, and all information were summarized quarterly to generate the final data which was carried out for secondary analysis.

Results

During the past eight years, the public′s attention on COPD had been increasing gradually. However, among the five key words related to COPD, the public preferred to choose "emphysema" as the key word for web searching, and the absolute value of cumulative growth for the search index was on the highest level. And the "emphysema" in the search index was higher than the other four key words (P<0.001) in each year. The media′s attention on chronic bronchitis and emphysema had been declining year by year. The key words " chronic bronchitis" and " emphysema" in the media index were significantly higher than the other key words (P<0.001).

Conclusion

In order to improve the COPD cognitive awareness of the public and the patients, the clinical medical workers should clarify the relationship among the key words of "COPD" , "emphysema" and "chronic bronchitis" in the process of the patient education and disease information. Meanwhile, the media should be strengthened to deliver disease information correctly.
